TO REACH PADDINGTON CEMETERY, MILL HILL
By tube: Take the Northern Line to Finchley Central on the Barnet branch. It is three miles to the cemetery, but there is a freephone taxi number in the booking hall. Don't make the mistake of going to Mill Hill East station, as there are no taxis, and it is a long walk to the cemetery.
By bus: London Red bus number 221 stops at the bottom of Milespit Hill/Pursley Road. The bus runs from Edgware/Turnpike Lane.
By car: Leave the M1 at junction 2, joining the Great North Way (A1). After about a mile, go left into Holders Hill Road (B552). After a further mile, you will come to a roundabout called Holders Hill Circus.Turn left here into Devonshire Road, which becomes Sanders Lane. After about half a mile, there is a school and bus stop on the left, and Milespit Hill is on the right. Turn into Milespit Hill. The cemetery entrance gates are on the right after a quarter of a mile. Go through the gates, turn left and go to the top of the rise. The memorial bench is on the left and Billy's grave is on the right.
The fan club are responsible for maintaining the grave - weeding and cleaning the headstone from money raised by the fans for the Stone Fund. If you wish to make a donation, please send a cheque or postal order made payable to BFITOY to the fan club address (no amount too small).
The two plaques on Billy's headstone have now been replaced as the originals were badly faded. See photos showing the new pictures on the grave and the many floral tributes left on the 24th anniversary of his death.
BFITOY hold annual meetings at Mill Hill in September attended by Jean and Albie (health allowing). They are more than happy to chat and answer all your questions at our gathering in the church hall after visiting the grave.
