GATHERING AT STATUE FOR BILLY FURY
BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
SUNDAY EXPRESS 22nd JUNE - AN APOLOGY TO BILLY'S FAMILY
The following is a transcript of the apology made as a response to issues raised about the February 3rd article
BILLY FURY: AN APOLOGY
Our February 3 article "Why Billy prompts such Fury" stated that there had been some tension between Wycherley (Billy's real name) family members and that some had shown little concern when his health failed. Sarah (Jean) Wycherley, his mother and Albert Wycherley, his brother, have asked us to emphasise that there was no family rift; on the contrary, there was a close family relationship, they cared deeply about Billy's health and were in close contact with him prior to his death.
Since 1989 they have both worked to perpetuate Billy's memory by Tribute performance and entertainment events to raise money for a number of charities.
We are happy to accept the points raised by Sarah (Jean) Wycherley and Albert Wycherley and the issue has been concluded amicably.
We have made donations to two charities nominated by them, British Heart Foundation and Merseyside Kidney Research Fund.
The World Museum, Liverpool has an exhibition from 12 July until 1 November 2009 entitled "The Beat Goes On". It includes sounds of the past 60 years of Liverpool's rich musical heritage. It has a section on Billy which shows his first guitar, fan magazines, telegrams etc, photos, and Billy on screen. Open 10.00am til 5.00pm daily Admission is free
